Who knew I could need so many different kinds of containers in the same house?! Often, I believe that the trick is to pick the right container for the task, one that helps keep things nice and tidy without taking up too much room and being more of a problem than a benefit. The ability to segregate objects by category is critical for maintaining organizing systems, and if the organizers are also attractive, that’s a plus.

Since I know many of you enjoy storage containers, I thought I’d share a list of my favorites and how I use them in case you have any forthcoming organizing tasks! Here are the storage boxes I use the most frequently, in no particular order:

1. Fabric Bins

I frequently utilize fabric bins, especially in our “cubed” storage containers. I like how they come in a variety of colors and are large enough to contain a lot of tiny stuff while being small enough to keep an area from becoming cluttered.

As a result, I frequently put an adhesive bookplate on the front of my fabric bins so that I can insert a label and plainly see what’s within.

Fabric totes are another sort of fabric storage that I enjoy using. I’ve used them to hold anything from sweaters to bathing suits to purses and wallets, and they’re always available at HomeGoods/TJ Maxx in a variety of sizes and colors.

2. Plastic / Acrylic Storage Drawers

Plastic drawers were originally listed as “things you should never use to organize,” and I completely disagree! They’re fantastic!

Unlike plastic tubs, which must be unstacked each time you wish to utilize their contents, drawers are conveniently accessible when stacked and are ideal for storing goods under the sink, cosmetics, writing utensils and office supplies, toys, small pantry items, and more.

They are also simple to label, which is a benefit!

3. Plastic / Acrylic Stacking Pantry Bins

They’re white, so they’ll go with anything, and they’re stackable, so we can simply order them vertically. We’ve used these bins to store the boys’ socks and underpants, shoes, toys in the garage, fitness equipment, supplies under the bathroom sink, and even grocery items!

4. Acrylic Storage Bins

The ability to look into the bins is quite beneficial since you can quickly determine what’s inside and get what you need. I like to mark them as well, just because it looks nice! They come in a variety of sizes, making it simple to get just what you want!

5. Plastic Storage Tubs

These containers are ideal since they are quite durable, and the top keeps out undesired dust and pests when stored in locations such as a garage or basement. When feasible, I always include a label!

6. Trash Cans

This isn’t the most typical form of the storage bin, but I’ve been discovering more and more applications for inexpensive garbage cans to store stuff, especially long and narrow goods! I’m currently storing my present wrap in a basic white plastic garbage bin.

7. SKUBB Boxes for Drawer Organization

We even have containers in our drawers! Since we moved into our present home, I’ve been using IKEA’s SKUBB boxes, and I adore how nice and tidy they store our clothes—especially smaller items like socks and tank tops. Another advantage is that they come in a variety of sizes and colors.

8. Shoe Boxes

Finally, I couldn’t bring this list to a close without including shoe boxes! Shoe boxes are inexpensive and really useful! I like to decorate them with wrapping paper, and I’ve used them to arrange under the sink and as drawer dividers to keep things clean and tidy. They can also be used to store tiny toys, collections, or office materials.
