For many years, reusable straws have been a kitchen necessity in my home. In fact, a selection of nicely arranged reusable straws in my cutlery cabinet at all times. Use a plastic straw or two daily, one for a morning cup of coffee and one for a smoothie. Drinking via straws, but without knowing the big of an impact this practice had on the environment until those straws became disposable. This brought about the purchase of reusable straws.

With so many manufacturers and lengths to choose from, as well as so many materials to consider – glass, silicone, steel, or even plastic — the ocean of options seemed daunting for such a simple purchase.

How to Choose the Best Reusable Straws

Length

You may prefer a taller or shorter straw depending on the height of your drinking container. Short drinking glasses, for example, maybe more difficult to sip from with a very long straw, while a straw shorter than the height of a tall drinking glass is ineffective.

Reed straws

We wanted to investigate if these reed straws could compete with the popular bamboo straws. They did not. We could tell they were of lesser quality and made of a thinner material right away since several of the straws in the package arrived shattered. While they do not grow frail with time, they do split at the smallest bit of pressure, posing a significant safety risk of accidentally swallowing tiny fragments or injuring your mouth, lips, or tongue.

Bamboo straws

Some reusable straws are dishwasher-safe, making cleanup a breeze. If not, wash your reusable straws in the sink with dish detergent and warm water after each use. If your straw does not come with a straw cleaner, we recommend purchasing one to make cleaning easier. Before cleaning and reusing the straw, scrub both the interior and outside.

I really like the idea of these straws and have already ordered four of them. Recommend having a bag in which to wash and completely dry used/dirty straws before folding and placing them back in their carrier – only clean straws should be placed back in the carrier. I normally rinse it with a little water, place it in a bag, and clean it at home. Meanwhile, every time I use it, it is one less straw in the landfill. When you open it, you may need to use a cleaning brush to flatten the straw. Continue to poke the brush in and out on both ends until it opens. These are for super liquids such as water, soda, and tea, not thick liquids.

This is an excellent straw. I can’t think of anything negative to say about it. However, I feel some work is required. The brush is useless. It’s quite difficult to use. It withdraws. It’s also difficult to get out of the lawsuit. When keeping the folded straw, you must hold it tightly or it will pop up. Having said that, it is still a terrific buy and well-made.

I like the straw, but I don’t like the latex/rubber taste it imparts. My straw’s rubber piece was completely glued shut, so I couldn’t drink anything. But after straining and wrestling with it, I eventually got the straw to open up. It now works flawlessly. 8/10 would suggest

I’m doing my part to reduce the use of plastic straws. I’m pleased with this OXO set. You may use the straws with or without the silicon tip; I prefer using it because I dislike sipping from a metal straw. The BEST feature is the provided huge and durable cleaning wire brush, which makes cleaning the straw and silicon connection a breeze. OXO goods are well-made and thoughtfully designed, in my opinion.

It works nicely as a straw; it doesn’t take much effort to move liquid from one end to the other.
Please keep in mind that the term “4 pieces” refers to the straws, the pipe cleaner, and the handy box they come in; there are only two straws in this bundle. Also, I’ve discovered that the only way to remove the dirty flavour after washing is to soak them in a vinegar bath. If you know how to wash straws, this may not be a problem for you.

These straws are fantastic. Glass straws are my favourite, and they work great. They are extremely easy to clean and long-lasting. I shattered a few, which is why I bought a second set, but only when I dropped a large thick glass with a straw in it. Dropping them on their own or placing them in the dishwasher next to each other has not harmed any of them. My only complaint is that the packing for the second set I ordered was not nearly as protective, and one of the straws is severely damaged. However, this is merely a packing issue.
