I’ve used this before, and it always worked really well. Old antifreeze has a nasty habit of corroding an engine’s insides and causing harm that you might not even notice.

Clue: If you purchase a complete flush kit, you must remove the thermostat in order to flush the engine; otherwise, you will only be flushing the heater coil. The right technique is to buy this thing, pour it in, drive around for a day or two, and then wait for it to cycle into the heater core, water pump, and engine. Reconnect the connector without the thermostat (now is an excellent opportunity to replace it since it’s out).

Open the radiator’s bottom drain, remove the cap, switch on the water hose, ignite your car, and keep an eye on the water until it is completely clear (around five mins should be sufficient, but you may go longer if you choose). Ensure that the radiator has completely drained before turning off the water, closing the flush kit with a cap, installing a new thermostat, and closing the radiator drains. I was utilizing this when flushing the heater core. After cleaning the core with water, I used this product to let the dexcool that had clogged it soak in and possibly be removed.

Since it was winter, it became pretty dark quickly, so I made the decision to leave it on overnight in the hopes that the dexcool stuck in the core would break apart. MY ERROR. REMOVE IT IF LEFT IN OVERNIGHT.

The following morning, I cleaned this out, added some coolant, and drove the vehicle.

It was remarkable how quickly the heat increased from being nonexistent to oppressive.

When I pick up my small daughter the following day, she says, “I smell gas.” She smelled coolant leaking from the heater core rather than gas. I believe this has eaten away considerably to create a leak since I kept it in for too long. Fortunately, I had some Kseal on hand that I added in, and thus far, it appears to have halted the leak.

So, yes, this product is effective. However, DO NOT LEAVE IT IN FOR A LONG TIME. Not the product, but my error.

Prestone is not my favorite, however this is citric acid. A 100k diluted foush in distilled water, left to sit overnight, tidies effectively. Not recommended for some vehicles that state differently, however most, if not all, would work just fine. In distilled water, emphasis on diluted.
